Day 9- the day of the Marrakech Miracle

Our day began with a 3 hour train ride to Marrakech. Babies were great! Ella sat this one out back in Casa with her babysitter Brenna. On the train we were approached by a man who said he had a tourism van and said he would take us around. It seemed shady at first...but we felt better after we saw that the van did in fact say "Turismo" rather than "This way to be a hostage in a foreign country."

Straight away to ride a camel. Come on...we are in Morocco and everyone knows you cannot leave Morocco without getting on a camel. Yes, we had to take the babies or leave them with the tour guide...not sure which was the better option.

It was  a little awkward as the camel stood up...not graceful creatures you know. And STINKY too.

Diana's camel did the camel shake.

Our camels lined up and walked us around for about 20 minutes.

Our family of camels.

Scotts' camel twin.

In front of the oldest mosque in Marrakech.

The Douglass casa minus Ella.

Mint tea to help you feel important while you look at Moroccan rugs.

The rolled out the rugs for us and taught us about the different kinds. Let me say we had absolutely no intention of buying a rug, but you can guess how the story ends. Much like a time share pitch.

At this point we were directed to say certain words in Arabic to let them know we liked the rug or to take it away.

Then we were supposed to "make an offer" which they laughed at and they were supposed to since we weren't going to buy the rug. We said we weren't budging and then we got back in the van. At that point our driver was supposed to take us back to the market...we then noticed he made a circle and we were back at the rug shop. The owner accepted our offer and we bought it. By the way, it's that red one. Hey, get off my rug!

Snake charmers.

Spices and dried fruit.

Diana wheels and deals with the T shirt man.

This store owner wanted us to trade Charlotte for a shirt. We did not accept the offer. Have I mentioned Moroccans LOVE babies? Literally, at the grocery store, Charlotte got kissed by perfect strangers on the lips like three times.

Diana wheels and deals with basket man.

Snails. Bon Appetit.

Time to go home. Three hours home, fussy babies, beautiful view home, torrential downpour...home sweet Moroccan home, fajitas, cookies, Burn After Reading.

Oh, the Marrakech miracle was the man that took our pics while we were on the camels. We paid $10 for 5 pics. When he found out we were leaving on the 3:00 train he said he would meet us at the train station...yeah right. Well, the sweet guy met us there with our 5 pics that were out of focus. But hey, it's all about the memories!
